For the last nine years at the end of May, Moab, Utah is host to the premier Nissan off-road and outdoor experience, goneMOAB (Gathering Of Nissan Enthusiasts in Moab). This year’s event took place May 23rd through May 28th. In addition to great trail rides, attendees had the opportunity to experience everything that the amazing Red Rock area of Moab has to offer. This year’s event, goneMOAB 9, was one of the best and most attended event ever.
The event started off Sunday night with the Meet-n-Greet at Moab Brewery. This lets the participants meet their fellow Nissan enthusiasts, meet the event organizers, Joshua Palmieri and Kevin Copeland, and get a bite to eat. They also get their “Event Guide” which is full of info on the area, the event, and tips for the novice or advanced trail rider.
Monday starts the trail rides. There are 2 to 3 trails a day through Friday. They range from the mild like “Fins-N-Things”, “Kane Creek” and “Porcupine Rim”, to the wild like “Cliff Hanger”, “Moab Rim”, “Golden Spike” and “The Pickle”. Participants can sign up for any trail they wish, however some trails have guidelines such as lift size, tire size, lockers and such. Every trail has at least one experienced trail leader and tail gunner. These folks help everyone through the trails, spotting and offering advice. Not only are the trails fun to run, but the views are out of this world. So make sure you bring your camera.
Throughout the week there are evening events as well, such as the traditional dinner at Zak’s pizza, a pot luck at
the event organizers’ condo & an event end bash on Friday night where goneMOAB provides the burgers and dogs. Everyone comes to share stories of the week, photos and generally have a good time. This will also be the night of the raffle. Every year goneMOAB works hard at getting sponsors such as Nissan, Nissan Sport Automotive Customizers, Camping Lab, ARB, BFG and many, many more to donate products for the end of the event raffle. This year’s event had one of the biggest and best raffles we have ever had. The proceeds from the raffle go to paying for the event permits and insurance, and a portion of what’s left over gets donated to “Tread Lightly” and “Blue Ribbon Coalition”.
Next year’s event promises to be just as spectacular as the last. The dates are set, so mark your calendar for May 22nd to May 27th. Also check out the website www.goneMOAB.com for the latest info and updates. Hope to see you there.
Sincerely,
Joshua Palmieri & Kevin Copeland
